WSNTA - Event Report

Halsway Manor — 29 September 2014
Report by David Beach

On Monday September 29th  a party of 40 members were treated to a fascinating afternoon at Halsway Manor,  the National Centre for Folk Arts, situated part way between Bicknoller and Crowcombe.

We were greeted by our members Brian and Glen Heaton, who are long-serving volunteers at Halsway, and  they gave us an excellent introduction to the history of the Manor House, and then a guided tour which included some very old downstairs rooms with wonderful plaster ceilings, as well as very comfortable bedrooms from various architectural periods.  We were then given a fascinating talk by Christine Corkett about the wall hangings which she master-minded a few years ago.  They depict twenty scenes of traditional dances, and her projected pictures were supported by Brian playing approrpriate music on his various accordions.  This was a fascinating event, rounded off with a delicious cream tea.  Thank you, Christine, Glen, and Brian, for providing us with such a memorable afternoon.
